FAQs
Online School Enrollment & Attendance FAQs
Who is eligible to attend iQ Academy Minnesota (IQMN)?
Any student in grades K–12 who resides in Minnesota is eligible for full-time enrollment.
What is the attendance policy?
As Minnesota public school students, all IQMN students must comply with the state-required minimum number of instructional days. Regular login to IQMN constitutes "attendance," and students are required to be in attendance while enrolled. We expect that students will attend Class Connect sessions as required and complete lessons according to due dates.
How much time will my child spend online?
In the younger grades, many of the online lessons include offline work. Students in grades K–2 spend about 30–40 percent of their time on the computer, while students in grades 3–5 spend about 50–60 percent of their time online. Screen time increases in middle school, and by high school, most of the school day is online. Half-credit courses generally require half as much time as full-credit courses.
Can our family take a vacation during the school year?
The school calendar includes school holidays or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. As long as internet access is available, students can log in and access their courses from any location. For trips during which internet access may not be available, students can print their assignments ahead of time or pack their offline materials and work from those in order to stay on track academically. Students should email their teachers if they'll be unable to access the internet for an extended period.
Once we start the school year, can we change our minds and go back to our home district?
Although we work hard to make IQMN a positive experience for all students, if you feel this is not the best choice for your child, you have the ability to return to your local school or homeschooling. We recommend that you complete a full year or at least a semester to be sure any challenges you perceive are not just related to adjusting to this new way to learn, and to make sure you get the full benefit of transferring credit received from IQMN.
